How to Revoke a Token Approval You Gave a Telegram Bot Wallet
You revoke a token approval by using a revoke tool to cancel the bot wallet's permission to spend that specific token from your wallet. This is the only sure way to stop a bot - or a scammer who took over the bot - from draining that token.
Why you need to revoke
When you connect a Telegram trading bot to your wallet and approve a token - for example, to let it buy or sell a memecoin - you give that bot wallet a lasting permission to move that token. The approval does not expire after one trade. It stays until you revoke it.
If the bot's private keys are compromised, if the bot operator turns malicious, or if you simply stop using that bot, that open approval is a risk. Anyone with control of the bot wallet can spend the approved tokens from your wallet at any time, up to the limit you set. Revoking closes that door.
What a revoke actually does
A revoke is a blockchain transaction. It calls the approve function on the token contract and sets the approved amount back to zero for that specific bot wallet. After revoke, the bot can no longer transfer that token from your wallet. Your token stays where it is. Your wallet's other tokens are unaffected unless you also approved them to the same bot.
Step-by-Step: how to revoke
Every revoke process follows the same pattern, regardless of the tool you use. Here are the steps in order.
1. Identify Which Token and Which Bot Wallet
You need the token contract address and the bot wallet address that has the approval. You can find both in your trade history.
- Telegram bot: Open the bot, check your transaction history, and find a buy or sell transaction for the token. Tap or click the transaction hash. It opens a block explorer (Solscan or Etherscan). On the transaction page, the bot wallet address appears as the "to" or "from" address in the token transfer. Copy that address.
- Phantom or Metamask wallet: Some wallets show recent approvals under a "Approvals" or "Permissions" section. If you see a "Revoke" button there, you can skip the external tool steps below. Still confirm the wallet address and token address match.
2. Choose a Revoke Tool
You do not need to use the original bot to revoke. Third-party revoke tools work for any approval. Popular options include:
- Solana: RugCheck.xyz or Solscan's "Token Approvals" tab for a specific wallet.
- Ethereum / BSC: Revoke.cash.
These tools are free to use. You pay only network gas fees to submit the revoke transaction.
3. Connect Your Wallet and Confirm Details
Open the revoke tool. Connect your wallet (the one that gave the approval). The tool will scan and list all active token approvals for that wallet.
Each row shows: token name/address, bot wallet address, and the approved amount. Match the bot wallet address you copied to the list. If you see multiple approvals to the same bot for different tokens, you can revoke one or all.
4. Submit the Revoke Transaction
Click "Revoke" next to the correct approval. Your wallet will prompt you to confirm the transaction. Sign it. The gas fee will be similar to a simple transfer. On Solana, this is typically a few cents to less than a dollar, depending on network conditions. On Ethereum, it can be higher.
5. verify it worked
After the transaction confirms, return to the revoke tool and refresh the list. The approval should no longer appear. You can also check the token contract on a block explorer for your wallet address to confirm the allowance of that bot wallet shows zero.
What revoking does not do
- It does not affect your balance. You still own the token.
- It does not remove the bot from your Telegram. The bot still works for other tokens you did not revoke.
- It does not prevent you from giving a new approval to the same bot later. You can approve again if you want to trade again.
When you should revoke immediately
- You stopped using the bot.
- The bot's Telegram group or channel went dark or showed signs of a hack.
- You see an unexpected small transfer from your wallet that you did not authorize.
- You suspect the bot is a fake clone.
Delaying revocation is the most common mistake. An approval that sits open is a standing invitation. Revoke as soon as you no longer need it.
